Elderly Canine Emerges from Storm Drain Trauma, Eager for a Loving Permanent Home

In late May, the Humane society of Lebanon County (HsLC) in Pennsylvania received a heart-wrenching call from local authorities about a dog trapped in a storm drain. At first glance, the dog seemed lifeless, but hope sparked when he lifted his head as the drain grate was removed. Promptly, a volunteer and a staff member rushed to the scene, prepared for the urgent medical attention the dog clearly needed. The sight was distressing: a frail dog, curled up and barely clinging to life.

The team carefully rescued the dog, later identified as Buddy, a 15-year-old dog who had been missing for three weeks. They immediately transported him to an emergency vet for critical care. In a stroke of fortune, Buddy’s owner was located, and efforts to reunite them began.

Buddy received three days of emergency, life-saving care. Miraculously, his condition gradually improved. Despite his age and the need for regular medical follow-ups, including ultrasounds, x-rays, and ophthalmologist appointments, Buddy made remarkable progress. Due to his advanced age and inability to be sedated, finding a patient and loving foster home emerged as the ideal solution for him. HsLC committed to continuing his medical and nutritional support.

Buddy, a gentle soul, gets along well with cats and prefers the company of calmer dogs. He’s on his way to feeling much better, a testament to resilience and the power of care.

In a world often clouded by negativity and confusion, Buddy’s story is a beacon of kindness, support, and healing. We’re now focused on finding a foster home for Buddy as he continues his journey of recovery. This is more than just a tale of rescue; it’s a reminder to embrace compassion and hope in our lives. Let’s rally together for Buddy’s next chapter.
