Recently, a profoundly emaciated Chihuahua named Phoenix came under our care. Found as an unclaimed stray on the streets of Quebec, his age remains a mystery due to his severe condition. When Phoenix arrived, he was nothing but skin and fur over bones, a clear indication he had never experienced the warmth of a loving embrace.
Despite being utterly terrified of the world around him, Phoenix’s sweetness is undeniable. It’s heartbreaking to see how fearful he is of everything, a testament to the trauma he must have endured. But, gradually, he’s beginning to trust our staff members, and we are wholeheartedly committed to making him feel loved and comfortable.
Our veterinary team is diligently working with Phoenix, providing him with a carefully monitored deit to help him gain weight slowly and steadily. He’s undergoing various medical treatments to address any underlying health issues contributing to his malnourishment.
We’re also focusing on helping Phoenix overcome his fear of the world. He’s given ample opportunities to socialize and interact with humans and other dogs in a safe, controlled environment. Witnessing Phoenix’s progress as he slowly starts to trust us and other animals has been truly heartwarming.
